Our sports department staff have been heavily involved in professional sport throughout their careers.
Our Head of Sport and BTC operations, Andrew Yanitsas, has a long history with Water Polo Australia and is currently the assistant coach of the Australian men’s water polo team.
Working closely with Andrew is Richard Campbell, our Head of Aquatics and Head Water Polo Coach. He is a four-time Olympian and has represented Australia across the globe.
Sam Negus, our Head of Team Sports, also plays within the Australian National Water Polo League and is the assistant coach of Water Polo Australia’s youth team.
Our Head of Representative Sport and Student Athlete Pathways is dual AFL and Gaelic football champion Tadhg Kennelly. He played for the Sydney Swans for ten years and is the only person to have won both an AFL Premiership medallion and a Senior All-Ireland Championship medal.
Richard Coakley, our Head of Rowing and Snow Sports, represented Ireland in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Our water polo coaches include Amy Ridge OG2014 – who represented Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games – as well as Charlie Negus, Matt Burns and Tim Putt who play for the Australian men’s water polo team.
In AFL, our students are lucky enough to have the guidance of GWS Giants player Tait Mackrill and Sydney Swans star Ryan O’Keefe.
“It’s great to be able to have such good role models within the team,” Andrew says, “it’s important that they can relate to the students, especially as they know what it is like juggling school or university commitments as well as their sport.”
