I want to play, sing and dance!
Our music program is
an important part of the academic curriculum in the junior school.
The music room is fully equipped with instruments and interactive
technology for every learning stage.
Classes are based on the Orff-Schulwerk method which acknowledges that every child is inherently musical.
Every girl can play
Your little girl will be learning music and playing musical instruments from Kindergarten.
In Year 2, she will participate in a strings program and can choose from violin, viola or cello.
By Year 3 she will experience the complete range of orchestral instruments including wind, brass and percussion.
All our girls have the opportunity to enrich their musical development by joining choirs and ensembles, performing at school as well as at civic and cultural events.
As well as extensive classroom lessons, your daughter can undertake private music study and choose from:
- music theory
Music students can choose to undertake St Catherine's examinations, as well as external examinations through the Australian Music Examinations Board and Trinity College London.
Each year our Kindergarten to Year 2 girls put on a production celebrating the Christmas story. Will you have an angel, a lamb, a little drummer girl? It's always enchanting.
By Years 5 and 6, your daughter has drama added to her performing arts curriculum and she can try out for the biennial musical. Perhaps you have a star in the making?
Fit for a diva
Our Research, Performing Arts and Aquatic Centre (RPAC) promises a spectacular performance space, with a new theatre with its own fly tower and orchestra pit. At the moment, the Dame Joan Sutherland Centre (DJSC) houses our theatre, rehearsal rooms and private practice studios. These facilities would be fit for Dame Joan, a treasured Old Girl of our school.
